Background
OSCE Missions and Field Activities are the front line of OSCE work in countries that require assistance and are the agent through which political decisions are translated into action. The OSCE Mission to Skopje is the Organization’s longest-serving field mission. The Mission’s current activities focus on police development, strengthening of domestic government institutions, strengthening the rule of law and media development and further implementation of the Ohrid Framework Agreement.
Tasks and Responsibilities: The Media Assistant (G5) operates under the direct supervision of the Chief, Communication and Media Relations Unit. The regular duties and responsibilities of the Media Assistant relate to: media affairs, media monitoring and reporting, and assistance in project preparation and implementation.
More specifically, the incumbent:
Monitors domestic and international media on coverage of Mission’s activities and produces daily internal media summaries in English language for the senior staff of the Mission;
Regularly liaises with journalists about Mission events and drafts answers from the Mission to media inquiries;
Assists in drafting press releases, media advisories, news items, feature stories and input for the OSCE website and the Mission’s social media channels, including assisting in the organization and coverage of public events;
Acts as official photographer for the Mission, taking photographs at important events to illustrate Mission’s activities;
Translates from English into local languages and vice versa when necessary;
Attends meetings, workshops, seminars, conferences related to media issues;
Assists in drafting project proposals, including developing budgetary projections, proposing partners and/or participants, as well as co-coordinating and executing project activities;
Monitors the implementation of the projects, including the monitoring of the implementing partners and keeps record of all interactions and ensures that the Mission and the project manager is kept abreast of all important issues;
Completes unit responsibilities for procurement of goods and services, including development or oversight of specifications, submitting inputs to internal procurement system and following up with general services;
Files and archives electronically all reports, project proposals, public information products and correspondence;
Performs other duties as assigned.
Necessary Qualifications
The candidates should have the following minimum qualifications:
Citizenship of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia
Completed secondary education supplemented by formal training in journalism, media, public relations and/or project management
Minimum 4 years working experience in media, public relations or any another related area; established ability to draft news-related documents and other reader-friendly and well-formatted documents as required
Established experience as photographer
Computer literacy with practical experience in Microsoft packages and Photoshop
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and in local languages
Ability to work with people of different nationalities, ethnicities, religions and cultural backgrounds
Demonstrated gender awareness and sensitivity, and an ability to integrate a gender perspective into tasks and activities

Remuneration Package
* Please note that appointment to this position is subject to approval of the OSCE Unified Budget for 2018.
Monthly remuneration, subject to social security deductions, is approximately EUR 1,360.00.
Social benefits will include participation in the Cigna medical insurance and the OSCE Provident Fund.
Appointments are normally made at step 1 of the applicable OSCE salary scale. At the discretion of the appointing authority a higher step may be approved up to a maximum of step 3 subject to specific conditions.
